Oakland Athletics minor-leaguer Grant Desme is retiring from baseball to become a priest. Apparently, he wasn't too big a fan of Moneyball. One of Oakland's top prospects, Desme was the 2009 Arizona Fall League MVP and was projected to contribute to Oakland's outfield in the near future.Whether or not you agree with his decision, you have to respect his willingness to give up his potential future earnings and ballplayer-lifestyle for his faith. Desme hopes to become a Catholic priest.
Despite being on the cutting edge of statistical analysis and one of the most significant GMs of all time, Billy Beane had no measurement for a ballplayer's likelihood for priesthood. I kind of like the ring of that, actually. "LFP." Does this make me a sabermetrician?
